Mission Wander

looking towards the Mission
Not a mission to wander but a wander through Mission really. The Mission district of San Francisco. Its a huge area and I've never spent much time there other than the occasional crazy bus ride.
I walked down Church to 16th then down Dolores to 19th and found a place to sit for a little while and study my map. I didn't have a goal in mind so I was aimlessly wandering. I decided to go to Pirate Cat Radio again and try a different latte than before. Plus I figured I could ask for suggestions while I was there.
My options...many!
That is on 21st and Florida so I had quite a walk but it was great. I walked through a bunch of neighborhoods that require revisiting. I went into the Pirate Cat and the radio dj was also the coffee maker so she had to come help me while the song was playing. It was pretty funny actually.
I decided to try something new and she suggested the Anarchyato (get it, like macciato) which is just a concoction of the baristas choosing. I told her to surprise me. So she did!
It had caramel, coconut, cayenne pepper and cardamom in it. It was an evolving drink too because it started out spicy, then to eggnog then to cookies it was really good, let's just put it that way!
I sat and savored it and listened to the dj, she was really funny actually!

The last time I went to Pirate Cat I had seen a Spanish bakery, so I headed there to try it out. You just walk in and help yourself. I chose one that was similar the one I like from Spain but still not the same. Weird how that is so hard to find!!
Slocumbe's ice cream shop
I did a little bit more wandering and then decided I'd go have some Humphrey Slocumbe ice cream. I thought it was on 15th and Harrison but when I got there it was a Muni bus depot...oops, so back on the bus I went and back to the EXACT PLACE I JUST WAS!! No kidding, I'd walked right by it. Not once but twice actually. That's how awesome I am! I found it to be surprisingly different gourmet than I thought. The flavors were out of this world, strange, ALIEN, flavors and combinations. I chose to eat the Secret Breakfast which was bourbon flavored ice cream with cornflakes in it. It was really delicious. Some of the other flavors were not very tempting but people say its all good there, so I'll keep trying it out! You know me....
About this time I had to get back on the bus to go meet up with Jan for a quick catch up and food so I got to the bus stop and up walks this man in the craziest outfit you've ever seen and wild neon pink hair to go with it. It doesn't surprise me anymore really, but this strange old man started ranting and cussing and getting really mean, I don't know what about though, the guy in pink or the Hispanics (he used a dirtier word than that, but he was hispanic too so that is weird!) anyways, he was waiting for my same bus...as per my usual Muni adventures.
Whatever, it wasn't that big a deal once he got onto the bus. After a few more pick ups a girl got on with a raccoon tail pinned to her purse and a couple sitting by me freaked out on her. It was a funny interaction because the girl with the tail couldn't figure out why they were so upset. ha!
Right now I'm headed to the Academy of Sciences to see about getting into the big event. If I can't then I'll come home and nap before I meet Josh for a concert. Phew, going to be a long night. I'm tired already. I might make it a short night actually. We'll see!
