I'm in the country. Idaho, it is mostly country anyways!
I had a thought today while I was driving north out of Boise. As the trucks were passing me and the men were wearing their hunter orange hats and hauling their 4x4's in the back of their pickups I realized it was that time of year.
This is the time of year when every night in the bar is ladies night. All the men are out in the woods with their boom boom sticks hunting for something to fill their freezers. Priorities. Gathering firewood and filling the freezer, those are two required jobs for fall season here.
One friend of mine was putting some things away and had his daughter hop up into the truck only to be confronted with the hunting rifle. Not face to barrel but it was sitting across her seat. It was pretty funny. Move the gun so sweetie can sit down daddy. Makes me laugh a little bit.
Later on as part of that same task (moving things not guns) the horse trailer started rolling as the parking brake had failed and so here I am closest to the truck, having to run (with a full beer and my purse in my hand, mind you) and hop into the truck in such a way as to slam on the brake and hold the trailer in place. I did it, without spilling. I am awesome!
Now I'm waiting for the children to go to bed so that the adults can go enjoy a campfire outside and some roasted marshmallows. Its going to be a great night. The moon is full and the beer is cold, along with the air and the fire is blazing. Its the simple things sometimes.
I love the autumn season here. The air has a crisp smell and the leaves are changing. Its time to get out anything cozy and get ready to settle in for the winter.
