Oh yeah! Ole! Finaly some flamenco dancing. I went to the city center to a place called La Claca. I'd been there Friday night so I found it easily, not to mention every tourist in town was also headed there so it was easy to spot.
The place was pretty packed, standing room only. I stood close to the stage. Glad I did too, it was so cool!
The dancer was actually a man not a woman tonight so I was a little surprised but he was really good and very animated and entertaining. There was a guitarist, singer, drummer and dancer. One of each. The dancer would come onto the stage and perform an amazing dance, like ultra fast tap dancing only with real flare (not the gay kind) and it was really awesome!
At the end the kid came out. He had long curly hair pulled back in a pony tail and he flipped it around as he turned, it was so great! The crowd loved him of course! I took a video which I'm going to try to download here so you can see him. So good!
I think I ended up standing next to some dancers as well, because the lady knew all of the performers personally and she looked like she had the figure (and makeup) of a flamenco lady. I hope to see her dance at Radio City on Tuesday night. Noemi and I are going to see that show, should be great fun!
It was pretty gloomy and rainy all afternoon and then the sun came out just in time for me to hit the city so I was glad for that. Its so pretty in Valencia when the sun is setting, like I've said before everything sort of glows. The colors of the buildings is transformed. Its pretty neat!
Right now everything is pretty calm outside. Which is nice. Hopefully there will be nice weather this week as it will be my last trip to the Mediterranean for a while. Hopefully not too long :)
Tonight I noticed that I am especially sick of cigarette smoke. My goodness. It was as if the lady I'll just call her Smokes like a stack, was smoking right under my nose all night long, one cigarette after the other. My goodness, one single wave of smoke leading directly to my position in the bar. Wow. I think there is alot of smoking in Italy too, we'll find out. I'm sure I'll get over it!
So, that was my night. Short and sweet. I couldn't find anyone to go with me and I wanted to be sure to catch the last metro out of the center so I didn't have to pay for a cab so I left after the performances and came home. Busy metro tonight for some reason. On a Sunday...
Well its now 2:36am on Monday morning. Off to bed finally. I watched a movie when Noemi got home at 12:30 and so I'm just now getting to lay down to sleep but I wanted to remember my night.
The one thing that really made me chuckle a bit was the man dancing reminded me of Mitch. I could just imagine him in bright red shoes tapping his heart out with a giant red bow around his neck. Pretty funny! Looks like the video of the Flamenco kid is a bit too big so I'll upload a couple of pics I attempted to snap while I was in the darkness of the bar. I think if this works I'll try to put the lady on Tuesday here too. But the kid could move!
