How Karen turns 3 into 8

Well, I am starting this blog on the train, because its been such a long day and I don’t want to forget anything.
Right now I am sat at Weymouth train station. My train from Bristol was late getting here and I, being plagued by bad timetable reading didn’t get off in Upwey and wait for my connecting train, I came here instead and am now waiting. That is how it works in England.
The sun has been out all day and its been really great! This morning I got up and walked into Dursley and went on a major shopping spree for new clothes. I spent 4 pounds and got some really comfy shorts and 2 tank tops (headed back to the Med. Again, I wanted to cool off this time) so once back to the house I found John was out enjoying the sunshine and I wasn’t sure when he was coming back so I ran and caught a bus to the train station. I left in a hurry too and didn’t leave a note. Which is terrible manners!! Just terrible.
Despite all that I really was excited to get back on my way again, even if it was just a long train ride. I am by myself and calling the shots and I am really glad. Tonight I head to Basingstoke and sit down with my Aunt and Uncle once again and make a budget and a plan. Then Monday I’ll head to Poole to see Tony and then I’m off again. Or off finally! I’ve had an awesome time this whole time but it does seem like I haven’t been anywhere yet.
I am planning to head to Dublin and see some of Ireland, then leave from Belfast to Valencia or Alicante (where ever the plane lands) from there I think I will sail to the Canary Islands. I mean, why squander an opportunity like that? It will be such good experience and I will see Portugal, the Island of Madeira and at least some of the Canary Islands in the process.
Then I’ll book my flight from there back to Palma for a quick visit and then from there to Milan. That should put me into Italy in the first part of September.
We’ll see if I can pull that off. My brother Matt is coming in September for some traveling with me and I can’t wait for that!!
Mom suggested I think seriously about paying to get onto a tall ship since then I am more likely to be able to volunteer. And I can volunteer here in the UK or at home as well. Its really tempting.
Okay, just got on the wrong train again. I should have waited until the 18:20 train with no transfers instead I get off at Winchester and catch another train. Ugh!! I have done that before, you think I would learn! Sheesh!
I’ve had a lot of time to sit and think today. The trains are good for that. I think its why I like them. But I have been thinking about all the stuff I’ve done this summer, all the funny little things I’ve learned. I came without a really clear vision of what I was after and that’s exactly what I got. I fuzzy trip. I mean, every day has been great! I’ve had a great time met great people and seen some amazing stuff. But why am I here? I don’t know that. And now that I’m here I want to be one of those people that can chat people up and catch a ride here and there and it turns out I don’t really know how to do that. I think that I do its just that I’ve been with people this whole time instead of making it happen on my own. I’ve started reading a book by Charley Boorman called By Any Means, I thought it would be a great inspiration to getting around the globe by any means but he has the entire thing set up before he gets going so he really isn’t scrambling like I hoped I’d read about. It makes me wonder what other books there are out there that are about that sort of thing. I am sure they exist. Shrimpy was that way, he had the boat but all the other things fell into place.
I think if this next part of my trip falls into place a little better than I’ll feel better satisfied. I don’t’ know. I wish there was a way to keep on moving. I really like it. (I know you are all thinking, but you haven’t been moving) but what I’m meaning by it is I am on my own schedule, stuff that I am seeing is new and different and the possibilities are way more at my finger tips here than at home (as far as ease of travel goes).
Looks like Greg won’t be sailing to the Caribbean in November after all. I think he wants to wait until next year some time. So I will likely be coming home in October. Unless I can find some one willing to take me there. We shall see. I still think it would been a neat way to get home (or closer to it)
Who knows. I am sure if I can just keep moving the answers will come to me. I thought about flying as far as Turkey and then trying to figure out how to get myself back to the UK. That would really be a trick wouldn’t it.
Who knows. I better pay attention because I need to get off this train soon.
Someone got on here with a pizza! How unfair is that. And they are not eating it which means we all get to smell it. Oh man! That makes me hungry!

I almost forgot the funnies thing! I had to go to the bathroom when I left Bristol…two and a half hours later I hit Weymouth and could hold it no longer! Since I’d missed the train anyways why not attempt it. You have to understand my backpack is immense!! I mean huge! So, I have to back into the stall (because I’m wearing it since there is no place to put it) then I get in there and discover they don’t have a hook to hang my other carry on pack. Which means, I’m wearing a huge heavy backpack, balancing another small but heavy backpack with one arm, trying to undo my shorts and take care of business. Getting dress again was the real challenge…try to not drop the damn bag in front! It would have been a really funny sight I am sure! Oh and did I mention that there was no TP. Which meant I had to carefully balance everything and dig out some tissue to help myself out. Just kept getting better!! Oh man! I can’t imagine getting that done while on a moving train! One rock in the wrong direction and it would have meant something got dunked!! Eew!!!
After I finally got to Winchester and had to get off I saw another train coming that was not on my schedule. I asked the nice station man why not and he said because I had the wrong timetable. Oh! So as we are discussing it a train pulls up and he happens to say where are you headed I say Basingstoke and he says oh! there is your train! So had to hurry up grab my stuff and jump on!
When I sat down tthe girl sat across from me had just flown into Bournemouth from Barcelona (which she loved) and so we had a good laugh about the spanish weather versus the English. It was a nice chat, then I finally made it home to Basingstoke!
I head to Poole tonight. Turns out Southwest trains is having a special on the weekends you get 10£ return tickets so instead of my paying 30£ I paid 10£ I just like having a £ key on this keyboard! Neat huh?!
That is teh scoop. The photos are my view for most of the day. Train stations. One is Cam & Dursley one is Bristol.
