Well, I went to the store tonight and bought some groceries. It was really neat. Nothing I recognized really. I found something that looked like beef stew and it was microwavable too, luckily I packed my microwave (remember I packed everything but the kitchen sink) so I warmed it up and ate a few bites. Not great. I did find some chips, Ruffles. And they were ham and cheese flavored or something. And I bought gummy bears too. Comfort food...:)
After that sad attempt at dinner I talked to some people here at the hostel and they were headed to Travel Bar for a free dinner. Basically you show up at 8pm and buy a pint of beer and they give you a huge plate of food. So technically it cost 3.5 euro but not too bad. It was good pasta and alot of it.
I think buying groceries and cooking will be the best bet. And once I'm in a place for a while I can buy enough to keep in the fridge for a day or two.
The walk back here from Travel Bar was cool. This city comes to life at night. Things are all lit up and all the people (and prostitutes) come out to stroll the streets. It really is a pretty time to be out. It was about 9:30 pm when we walked back and the city was just "waking" up it seemed like.
There is a rave down by the water front tonight, a bunch of people are going. They are giving away your first drink free. I'm skipping it this time. Its too far to walk back here by myself and who can afford to drink in this place.
So far tonight I'm sleeping in an empty dorm room. I am glad. Makes it easier to spread it all out and PACK ALL THAT STUFF up again. Sheesh!
I think I might have a little bit of culture shock. It will take me longer to adjust than I think. The language thing is tougher than I thought. So far most people speak english its just that the things are in spanish. I've gotten the Metro figured out now at least. Billete = ticket. Viola!
I think Spain might not be so bad if I were out of teh city a little bit. I think I'm comparing it to London too much. Besides that they speak English there it feels safer and you are hassled alot less there than you are here.
I better get used to it, its going to be a long summer if I let it get to me.
It seemed like a bus load of people just walked in. They must be part of a traveling group of some kind. This hostel must be huge too! Because you would never know that many people were around here.
The breakfast here is free. Its toast and cereal. I ate some today. The milk was warm so it was hard to choke it down for sure! Tomorrow I'll get here right when they serve it up (at 8am) so that its still cold. I got there at 9:15am. You snooze you lose.
Trying to think what else. Oh! The grocery store I went to "Dia" was hot, it was hot inside. I mean, you walk in to check out the vegetables and its a heat wave. it was hard to shop (even being hungry...and you know how much I like my food) when the store was so warm. Hot really.
The guys I went to dinner with are all college graduates. They are headed to Switzerland tomorrow. They said Zurich was really expensive to stay in but Bern and Interlaken were not bad. I'll check it out. We'll see how my attitude changes once I get to Palma.
There is a poster right by me that says smashedtravel.com it says sun surf adn sangria. What a combination. This place is loaded wiht information on cities, hostels, parties, food, dance. They post time tables for buses going to smaller airports that support the cheap flights etc so its pretty neat. I'll review this hostel when I'm done here. I liked everything about it except its location...its down a little street that gives me the creeps... but that must just be my paranoid ways because its reknowned for its location! Near to Las Ramblas. Which gets cooler with each passing hour.
A big group of young boys just sat down for dinner (I call everyone young and boys because I'm at least 6-8 years older than them) they didn't quite know how to manage the cork screw and just keep attempting bottles until someone finally showed them how to manage it. Pretty funny.
Tomorrow will be a busy day. But once i get settled in I think its a short walk to the beach!! Yippee!
I'm trying to think if I missed anything else. This blog is as much my journal as it is for any of you. So yes, I'm going to ramble on a bit.
Later,
k
